Diarrhea can have many causes. It can be a symptom of illness or a side effect of medication administration, sometimes the consumption of food or contaminated water can put the person with HIV at risk of presenting diarrhea or complicate it if it already has.

Some dietary recommendations when having diarrhea are:
– Consume soups, fruit juices diluted in water, or an oral rehydration solution (sera).
– Eat soft, pure or moist foods, for example soft vegetables and fruits, cereals, rice, bananas, potatoes and stews with refined maize flour, rice, barley or potatoes, vegetable soups.
– To replenish the minerals that have been lost, consume vegetables and soft fruits, especially bananas, mangoes, papayas, watermelons, courgettes, pumpkins, potatoes and carrots.
– Eat refined foods (soluble fibers) such as white rice, corn flours, white bread, noodles and potatoes.
– Peel and cook the vegetables and fruits so that they can be better supported.
– Eat hot foods, not too hot or too cold.
– It consumes meals not very abundant, but eats frequently.
